Standardized Tests

Last week, my kid was relieved of his normal middle school class schedule in order to take a standardized tests. He tends to be a little fuzzy on details these days, but he did tell me that the test included questions like, “Do you like to pack boxes?” and “Do you like building bird houses?” and “Do you like mowing lawns?”

Geez. How can you answer these questions in the abstract? Why don’t they ask questions that included the following information: “Do you like to pack boxes for $10.00 an hour with no benefits?” “Do you like building bird houses in a cold, smelly factory with bad ventilation? And no benefits.”
